The Bharatanatyam Solo Debut · Mastery Stage
The Arangetram is a Bharatanatyam student's solo stage debut, a 2 to 2.5-hour live performance of the full Margam (Pushpanjali through Tillana) before family, gurus and the cultural community. At Kairali, the Arangetram is the culmination of years of structured training, designed and directed by Guru Mini Radhakrishnan.
Tradition
In the Bharatanatyam tradition, the Arangetram (literally "ascending the stage") is the moment a student is presented to the community as a soloist for the first time. It is performed only after years of disciplined training, typically 5-10 years, and only when the guru considers the student ready.
It is not an exam. It is a public statement that this dancer is capable of carrying a Margam alone, with live music, before a cultural audience, for the better part of an evening.
