One name.
Two great traditions.
Kalamkari takes its name from kalam, the pen, and kari, craftsmanship. Srikalahasti is known for narrative freehand drawing with a bamboo pen. Machilipatnam and Pedana are known for carved-block repeats, florals and borders.
Traditional work involves cotton preparation, mordants, repeated washing and layered colour. These Kairali pieces are sold precisely as Kalamkari printed cotton. We do not claim they are hand-painted, naturally dyed or GI-certified without written maker verification.
